How This All Began:
A few years ago, I was working on my SPITFIRE BBS at work and I
wanted a way for my users to browse the file listings offline.
I decided to write a program to allow them to search filenames
and descriptions or both.. just like this one.. David Martin
of CMS Software contacted me and asked me if I would be interested
in writing a File Retrieval System to be included on his CD's and
that is how this program started. This program is being used on
other Cd's being published today.
Features:
o Supports multi-line file descriptions (5 lines) (using SF 3.4's structure)
o .ZIP File uncompression using PKUNZIP Version 2.04g
o Copy individual files
o View individual .ZIP files (DOS MORE No Longer Required!)
o View text files within .ZIP's! (only 1 layer deep)
o View text files on the CD!
o File Tagging (copying, viewing, unzipping)
o Make directories on the fly when copying, unzipping files
o When searching/loading, display percent completed
o F2 displays Program/Programmer Information
o ALT-M - Memory available at the time
o ALT-J - Jump To DOS!
o Run in COLOR or MONOCHROME
o Scroll and View COMPLETE listing
o Scroll and View INDIVIDUAL File Areas
o Search filenames (3 levels)
o Search descriptions (3 levels)
o Search filenames and descriptions (3 levels)
o Easy to use installation procedure
o Many More....
Special Thanks:
A person who really needs to be acknowledged is my wife, April
who has stood by me while writing/updating this program and
hearing my 'Just a little longer..' when I have a brainstorm.
I would like to thank my Dad, Don Brown for his help in general
and starting a Computer Consulting Company.
This program is written using Clipper, a dBASE Compiler. Many
thanks to Doug Stevens and Larry Taylor, two instructors who
taught dbase II and Advanced dBASE III+.

-= Technical Notes =-
If you are running MS-DOS 6.x you will need to add a line to your
AUTOEXEC.BAT file. You can do this with your favorite TEXT editor
or MS-DOS's EDIT command.
SET CLIPPER=E000;
The reason I mention this is because if you run the file retrieval software
and it might return a message: Not enough memory and return to the DOS
prompt.
MS-DOS 5.0 works just fine (and releases below) but MS-DOS 6.x needs that
command. (Don't know why)
This command tells MS-DOS not to use extended/expanded memory. You ask
why? Well, the compiler I am using says that it isn't stable so I won't
use it.
I just uses your base 640k RAM and if it needs to 'drop to dos' to perform
a task, it takes what is memory and swaps it to a swap file on your
computer.
If you have any questions, you can call The Flaming Star BBS, 24 hrs a day
and 7 days a week (except for maintenance and storms) at 812-898-2561.
Leave a message to the sysop and we will work with you on any problems
you might have.
